Spiral Dance Showcase 2012:
Dance meets Sport
This years showcase is hosted in partnership with Oulder Hill Community School.
The Dance Meets Sport showcase provides a platform to exhibit the variety of dance happening across the borough of Rochdale, within the community, education and private dance schools. We have invited applications from our neighbouring boroughs of Oldham and Bury.
The showcase celebrates the diversity of dance by exhibiting a variety of dance styles and themes. The showcase aims to include all ages and abilities to explore who can dance, why people dance and what dance is.
This year we have decided to introduce a theme: The Olympics and Paralympics. The attached sheet will give you exciting ideas to base your dance around.
Tickets are available from Gracie Fields Theatre.
If I Could Do Anything....
Funded by Children in Need
The 'If I could do anything...' project works with children and young people aged 8-16 from the Rochdale Borough, living with one or multiple disabilities.
We are working with five groups of young people to create visual art and dance for performance based around the "Anything" questions.
The 'Anything' questions are:
I like to... I want to... One day I will... I dream about... I aim to...
After this the groups will come together to show each other and their families what they have created in a sharing event.
The result of the project will be to develop a bi-weekly class where young people can attend with their friends to dance a socialize!
Alongside these sessions we will be delivering one hour long taster sessions to groups of children and young people that did not participate in performance part of the project, to introduce them to creative dance, and give them the opportunity to come along to the bi-weekly family workshops.
Because we work with creative movement, it means that absolutely anybody can take part in the sessions regardless of their ability, and everybody's opinion and movement is listened to and valued.
